Procrastination vs. Curiosity

For many years, I labeled myself a “procrastinator”. I entered a shame spiral about wasting time whenever I became “distracted” and changed courses while working. Then one day I had an aha moment:

There is a difference between “procrastinating” and “following my curiosity”.

When I follow my curiosity, I am learning, growing, and developing. My creativity is at an all-time high when I am curious. I am like a sponge, soaking up every bit of knowledge I can and then attempting to connect the dots. Now…

I give myself permission to stay curious. In fact, I demand it of myself.

So, how do I know when I’m truly procrastinating rather than following my curiosity? The answer is simple. When the time spent is adding zero value to my life and therefore my ability to contribute to other people’s lives, I’m procrastinating.

When I’m growing in ways that will allow me to better understand the world around me and how I can contribute to it, I’m following my curiosity.

What will you do to follow your curiosity today?
